The Los Angeles Dodgers gave away crypto-based athlete tokens.
Guests will be able to download the tokens of athletes such as Clayton Kershaw, Justin Turner, and Kenley Jansen. They’ll also have the option to convert these tokens to Ether (ETH) during the game scheduled on September 21.
The First-Ever Crypto Giveaway in Sports
The first 40,000 ticketed fans will receive a unique card. Unlock it and you will be able to subsequently transfer to an Ethereum wallet.
The team will randomly select the character-based crypto tokens. There will be roughly equal shares of codes for each of the three players.
Lon Rosen, the CMO and Executive Vice President of the Dodgers called this the “first-ever [c]rypto giveaway” in the world of sports. He added that the initiative will let them “explore an entirely new marketplace with our fanbase.”
This would indeed be a unique experiment in the new era of digital collectibles.
Sports and Digital Collectibles
In fact, the sports space has been a promising candidate for crypto-based projects. All thanks to its immense following and easy adaptability and integration with cryptocurrency and token-based initiatives that reward fans.
Take the Sacramento Kings basketball team’s project, for instance. The team had collaborated with MiningStore, a crypto mining supplier organization. Within the indoor area, the teams installed Ethereum mining hardware to transfer crypto revenue to a scholarship program.
Binance, the largest crypto exchange in the world, had invested into chiliZ, the blockchain-based esports voting platform. The project aimed to create a “fan-driven token ecosystem for traditional sports teams.”
Such crypto-based initiatives have been popular for quite some time now, taking different forms and sizes. These hold the promise of a bright future ahead, empowering both fans and the crypto token space in general.
Such initiatives help increase fan-engagement and involvement in sports. On the other hand, these help drive mass adoption of crypto tokens and digital collectibles.
As Rosen put it, “We hope this piques the interest of Dodger fans, and will help launch a new age of digital collectibles and promotions.”
