Juniper Research: Cryptocurrency Market on Brink of Implosion?

Apparently, the cryptocurrency market is on the brink if implosion, notes doomsayers at Juniper Research.  In fact, their recent report – The Future of Cryptocurrency: Bitcoin, & Altcoin Trends & Challenges 2018-2023 warns of impending doom.

The Doom and Gloom Argument According to Juniper

One of the Juniper arguments is that the daily transaction volume fell from 360,000 in June 2017 to just 230,000 in September 2018.  Of course, part of the reason for this is recent selling pressure. Some of this can be traced back to the U.S. SEC’s reluctance regarding ETFs.

Plus, until we obtain more clarity from the U.S., volumes are likely to return.

A temporary issue isn’t enough to declare and impending collapse.  Juniper is well aware of this.

Furthermore, researchers suggest that “based on activity during the first half of Q3, Juniper estimates a further 47 percent quarter-on-quarter drop in transaction values.”

Again, once we have further clarity on cryptocurrencies, better numbers will follow.

We Can’t Discount Bullish Activity Either

The NASDAQ is about to hand institutional investors analytical tools for trading hundreds of crypto assets.  Allianz Chief Economic Advisor, Mohamed El-Erian is bullish on cryptocurrency, as well.  “Crypto isn’t dead, and, certainly, the underlying technology is not dead. We’re going to see more widespread adoption, by both the private and public sector, of the blockchain technology and related technologies,” he says, as quoted by Oracle Times.

Even the CIO of Yale’s nearly $30 billion endowment, David Swensen just invested in two venture funds that focus on cryptocurrency.

Moreover, such an endorsement of assets is significant.  Remember, Swensen is one of the top money manager pioneers, having managed one of the best-performing college endowments.  Therefore, it is no wonder other endowments attempted to replicate his investment model.

If Juniper wants to tell Yale they made a mistake investing in cryptocurrency, I want to be a fly on the wall at that meeting.
