As an investor, gaining exposure to blockchain can be a tricky. Unless, of course, you’re buying cryptocurrencies. However, there are still ways to profit from the emerging technology, as analysts at JP Morgan point out.

There are few that JP Morgan says will create ‘material incremental growth opportunities’ from the technology,” notes CNBC.

Blockchain as a Service (BaaS)

“Investors should be looking to identify where the opportunity to replace a middleman is the biggest, or where trust is needed where none exists, or what companies are the best positioned to offer blockchain as a service,” JP Morgan software equity research analyst Sterling Auty says, as quoted by CNBC.

For example, Akamai (AKAM) could leverage “BaaS,” he noted.

“Rather than building from scratch we see customers looking to utilize a vendor like Akamai that offers its Blockchain capabilities as a service,” Auty said. “While there are a number of companies that have blockchain technology, IBM as one example, we believe the sizable Akamai network is an inherent advantage in running a distributed ledger in blockchain.”

According to JP Morgan, DocuSign (DOCU) can also provide exposure

Another example is DocuSign (DOCU) that could help leverage the private and public blockchain.

“DocuSign wants to be the platform to enable the entire contracting process in a digital manner. Over time we could see much of the platform being based on blockchain, basically shifting its centralized security model for the distributed model of blockchain,” noted the JP Morgan analyst.

Ellie Mae offers Another Opportunity

As for mortgage software company Ellie Mae, Auty predicts that the entire real estate industry will greatly benefit from blockchain.  This view reflects that of Bank of America analyst Kash Rangan, who sees Zillow soon moving into blockchain as well.

The analysts from both JP Morgan and BoA believe it’s an opportune time to take advantage of the opportunities. Inevitably most companies will adopt blockchain  technology.
