DogePal Creator Clarifies Random Anonymous Tipping

DogePal Dogecoin

Over the last few weeks, there has been a good amount of speculation regarding the “Random Anonymous Tipping” feature of DogePal. DogePal is a service that is similar to PayPal. It is part of Dogecoin and aims to provide email-to-email payments.

Furthermore, like PayPal, DogePal facilitates cross-platform transactions. This allows for the installation of the payment platform on both computers and mobile devices.

Anonymous Tipping Might be a Misnomer

In his address to Dogecoin community members, Tom, the creator of DogePal, talks about the true nature of “Anonymous Tipping.” On Reddit, he noted that “‘Anonymous tipping’ in the purest sense might be a misnomer.” Therefore, once a user spends a Dogecoin, the transaction creates a type of “paper trail.”

Consequently, Dogecoin transactions ultimately cease to be completely anonymous.

Moreover, a user can mathematically generate a Dogecoin address offline and give it to someone else. The recipient can pay you in DOGE which then remains anonymous in your wallet.

However, as soon as you spend the DOGE, it will generate a record and store it on the Dogecoin public blockchain network.  Therefore, if the person sending you DOGE gets caught in illegal activity, your identity will not remain anonymous. This is because your transactions appear in the “web of detective exploration of the publicly accessible blockchain.”

Understanding the Anonymous Tipping Feature of DogePal

While using DogePal, a user can see a “be anonymous” checkbox on the send screen.

This will enable the user sending DOGE tokens to conceal his/her email address from the recipient. However, the system informs the user via an email notification that the recipient received an anonymous tip.

Another built-in feature is to pick up a Shibe at random from the DogePal database. One can then tip DOGE to the Shibe. The “be anonymous” box allows the tip senders to either reveal or hide their email address. This random tipping feature allows anyone on the DogePal platform to receive a random tip in DOGE.
